Autoliv Confirms it is Taking Business Away from Takata

Swedish Autoliv, a global automotive safety supplier, says it now has agreements with “several different OEM’s for new supply capacity of up to 25 million airbag inflators for delivery during 2015 and 2016.” This of course is a direct fallout from the Takata airbag inflator recall. Ready For a 4-Point Seat Belt? Renault Thinks So

Geeks can debate whether this is a 4-point seat belt or 5-point solution. Simply put, there are two seat belt systems in play. This latest seat belt restraint design requires a first step – slipping an arm under a fixed 2-pointseat belt, then grabbing a seat belt the opposite side, the traditional “buckle up” action is needed from the driver or the tandem passenger of the two-seat car. Since Twizy is really an electric motorcycle on four wheels, whether this adds or detracts from the saleability of thus far market challenged EVs remains to be seen. Continue reading

Autoliv Side Curtain Airbag Recall Grows – Now Includes Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Honda and Acura Vehicles

What was an old munitions plant in Utah now owned by global auto supplier AutoLiv is sending shock waves into auto plants around the world because the side curtain airbag inflators it made are defective. The charge that releases the compressed gas that inflates the airbag may not explode during an accident, thereby rendering the airbag ineffective. Factories in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan and China are affected by the growing recall. Continue reading
