Henrik Fisker Out at Fisker Automotive, the Firm He Co-Founded
Fisker Automotive announced today the resignation of its Executive Chairman, Henrik Fisker who in turn said there were disagreements with the oft-changing management team, which had three different CEOs during 2012. Fisker, a car designer by trade, had been executive chairman of the hybrid electric car company that he helped found in 2007. Continue reading

A123 Files Bankruptcy. Johnson Controls to Purchase its Auto Assets
A123 Systems (Nasdaq: AONE), a developer and manufacturer of nanophosphate lithium iron batteries and systems, today filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. A123 ran out cash as demand for EVs and its batteries remains weak to almost non-existent. As part of a proposed reorganization Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI) will supply $72.5 million in “debtor in possession” financing to support A123’s continued operations as JCI purchases parts of A123. Fisker Recalls 2012 Model Karma Cars because of Fires
Fisker Automotive is recalling 1,377 Finnish-built Karma passenger cars because of a defect in a low temperature cooling fan may result in a short circuit. The short can ignite the fan housing, shroud and surrounding components, causing a vehicle fire. At least one Karma fire has been reported and one cooling fan has burnt, according to Fisker in the required defect filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Continue reading

Fisker Appoints New CEO – Tony Posawatz from GM’s Volt Program
Fisker Automotive today named Tony Posawatz, the former head of the Volt program at General Motors as its new Chief Executive Officer, its third CEO this year. The current CEO Tom LaSorda will stay with the company in an “advisory” role. LaSorda was only appointed CEO in February 2012 after joining Fisker two months previously. Continue reading

Fisker Automotive and Leonardo DiCaprio today announced that they will work together to promote environmental causes. Penske Automotive Adds a Fisker Dealership in Arizona
Penske Automotive Group is opening the first Fisker dealership in Arizona – Fisker of Scottsdale. The addition of the new Arizona outlet bring to 80 the number of independent retail locations in the US, Canada and Europe selling Fisker EVs. The Karma model is sold through 48 outlets in North America, and will soon be distributed for the first time in China and the Middle East following new retail agreements. Continue reading
Fisker Expands Karma Battery Recall for Potential Fires

Fisker Automotive Makes Tom LaSorda CEO
Nevertheless, the future of Fisker is not clear. In 2010, the U.S. Energy Department awarded Fisker $529 million in loans as part of an effort to help development of so-called advanced-technology vehicles. Part of the loan was for redeveloping a closed General Motors plant in Wilmington, Delaware – home state of vice president Joe Biden – to build a small electric car, code named Nina – that has yet to appear. Fisker said that about one-third of the total loan amount – $190 million – has been drawn, mostly for Karma design and development. Continue reading
