Toyota North American Production Back to 100% in September
All of the Detroit Three automakers – GM, Ford and Chrysler – clearly outsold the Japanese Big Three – Toyota, Nissan and Honda – in May as a result of the marketplace chaos. The largest Japanese automaker Toyota – also the most dependent on imports to the U.S. – saw decreases of 33% across its brands to 108,387 vehicles compared to a year ago. Continue reading
Toyota Auto Production Interruptions to Go On Until Year End
It is also an affirmation of the wisdom of the U.S. taxpayer financed bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler. At the time these were under debate in 2008 and 2009 ideologues scoffed at the assertion that to let those companies fail would also cause other North American auto companies – U.S. and offshore owned – to fail since suppliers in common would be wiped out taking the whole auto industry down. Toyota Cuts May Auto Production in North America
On average, around 85% of the parts and materials for the 12 North American-built Toyota and Lexus models are sourced from 500 suppliers in North America. While production of some parts and materials continues in Japan, Toyota says it is working closely with affected suppliers in order to minimize the impact, which appears to be considerable and ongoing. Toyota Cuts North American Car and Truck Production
On these non-production days, Toyota will continue to provide employment for its approximately 25,000 regular North American team members in keeping with previous Toyota practices.
