Largest US Auto Exporter – BMW Manufacturing
BMW Manufacturing has exported 272,346 BMW X models from the Spartanburg plant during 2017. Nearly 87% of these “Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes” were exported through the Port of Charleston with a value of approximately ~$8.76 billion, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. BMW to Spend $900 Million on South Carolina Plant for New X4
Since 1994, the plant has undergone four major expansions and produced 6 different BMW models and their variants (318i, Z3, Z4, X5, X6, X3). Employment has grown from 500 in 1994 to more than 7,000 today. Continue reading

BMW X5 and X3 Hybrids to Start Production in Spartanburg
During 2015 – 2018, Spartanburg produced the X5 xDrive40e, the first plug-in hybrid production car from the BMW brand. All totaled, the plant’s battery assembly team assembled more than 45,000 batteries during this four-year period. Continue reading →
