Who’s Driving? Ford Recalls Mustang Recall

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is recalling a previous recall covering 2022-2023 Ford Mustang vehicles. The secondary steering torque sensor may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.

“They were previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 24V-493,” Ford told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the mandatory safety defect recall filing.

“Recall 24S44 / 24V-493 installed correctly on their vehicles but were recorded as having received the repair successfully completed in Ford’s records. In the affected vehicles, the secondary digital torque sensor in the steering gear was originally calibrated with an inverted polarity. Because the correct software update remedy was not installed on their vehicle, the underlying condition specified in Safety Recall 24S44 / 24V-493 still exists, and if the primary steering torque sensor experiences a failure or fault and the secondary digital torque sensor’s polarity is inverted, the steering wheel may begin oscillating without warning (alternating clockwise / counterclockwise) when the driver attempts to steer. The oscillation results from the electronic power steering gear providing unintended steering assist,” Ford Motor said.

Ford Dealers will update the power steering control module (PSCM) software, free of charge as is required by U.S. safety regulations. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 31 March 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S11. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to nhtsa.gov about NHTSA recall 25V096 or 25V-096.
