Daimler has confirmed that the Smart E-Scooter will go on sale in 2014 at an unspecified price. First introduced as a concept from its Chinese studios at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, the fully electric Escooter is part of a range of electric vehicles including the Smart Fourtwo and Smart Ebike that are targeted for the European Union, which wants to ban all internal combustion engines from inner cities.
The Escooter offers safety systems that appear to be unique for this category of vehicle, including antilock brakes, an airbag, and blind spot assist. Escooter’s 4 kW (5.4 horsepower) electric motor provides it with a range of up to 100 kilometers. With the Ebike, the cyclist is assisted by an electric motor up to a speed of 25 kmh.
