Until testing, tracking and quarantines are in place, reopening plants will cause more infections and deaths.
Just issued by the United Auto Workers union: “The UAW continues to review with great caution and concern decisions being made about restarting workplaces, especially at advanced dates. These decisions should be informed by data and where each state is on the contagion curve.
“The UAW maintains that strict CDC guidelines need to be adhered to at all worksites and that prior to reopening sufficient data and protections are in place to ensure the safety of our members, their families and the public.
“The only guideline in a boardroom should be management asking themselves, “Would I send my family — my own son or daughter — into that plant and be 100% certain they are safe?” – UAW President Rory L. Gamble on Health and Safety Standards Regarding the Reopening of Worksites”
Ford is delaying the restart of production at its North America plants to help protect its workers. The company had been aiming to restart production April 6 at Hermosillo Assembly Plant and April 14 at several key U.S. plants – and now has further postponed startup dates, which will be announced later.
“The health and safety of our workforce, dealers, customers, partners and communities remains our highest priority,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford president, North America. “We are working very closely with union leaders – especially at the UAW – to develop additional health and safety procedures aimed at helping keep our workforce safe and healthy.”
Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force, falsely said that “19 states, almost 40% of the country, have less than 200 cases” of COVID-19. Right now, 17 states 7.2% of U.S. population have fewer than 200 confirmed cases each. COVID doesn’t recognize political affiliates or state boundaries and is immune to such virulent spin. It will appear in all states in increasing numbers and deaths until more effective National Measures are put in place or – worst case – we all have it.
