Chevrolet (NYSE: GM) today unveiled the Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck “concept” at the Mint 400 off-road race, where the truck will also compete as part of the Hall Racing team’s lineup. The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept joins the team’s Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 race trucks. Chad Hall will drive the all-electric off-road race truck in the Open Production EV class.

“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”

The high-performance, off-road Silverado EV ZR2 race truck appears after five months of development, and has ~98% GM production parts. At the heart of the race truck’s off-road capability is prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers. These dampers provide off-road performance for the more than 13 inches of front- and rear-wheel travel. Combined with the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck’s 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, and a tri-motor electric propulsion system that creates 1100 horsepower and 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque, the race truck concept easily carries the ZR2 badge – at least to the starting line.

  • Lifted, front and rear suspension with specific off-road tuning that continues to deliver on the pavement
  • Multimatic damper technology
  • Locking differentials
  • Underbody skid protection

Chevrolet said engineers will embed themselves with the Chad Hall Racing team to analyze the race truck’s performance, durability and capability. These will be applied to production vehicles, and performance parts and accessories from Chevrolet. Today, more than 44 off-road performance parts and accessories are available for customers to buy for production trucks. More information on Silverado EV Trail Boss will be forthcoming.

Working with the Chevy engineers is always a good day at the office,” said Chad Hall, primary driver and owner of Hall Racing race team. “What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy. An off-road race like The Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear.”

Hall Racing first started competing in a stock production class in a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in 2017. Since then, the team has finished 53 of 54 races entered.

The Silverado ZR2 race truck concept’s debut comes as Chevy prepares to launch this summer the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss, its first off-road oriented EV variant. Trail Boss should be a more off-road capable Silverado EV with a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires and red tow hooks. New Terrain Mode gives the truck increased maneuverability in tight spaces.
