Bah Humbug! SEMA on Congressional Inaction on Racing Parts

SEMA was referring to the “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act” (RPM)* that has hobbled around congress for three years staring with the 114th Congress, including the 2021–2022 session of Congress. The Senate Environment & Public Works (EPW) Committee and the House Energy & Commerce Committee were involved in the bill, but members weren’t able to get it out of the House or Senate committees for lack of, well, horsepower. Perhaps the bills sponsors, who were overwhelming Republican (102 Republicans, 30 Democrats), were part of the problem. The Republicans aren’t known for their environmental policies, but rather the opposite as Global Warming repudiators often backed by the fossil fuel industry and perennial opponents to fuel economy or clean air regulations. Safety First – NASCAR and RealResponse to Provide Participants with Anonymous Squawk Tool

This appears to be a response to the critics of the Next Gen car introduced for the 2022 season, which injured some during rear impacts – either being hit from behind or spinning off backwards into a wall. It clearly poses image problems for NASCAR, if drivers or fans or media think safety is not being, well, emphasized. The next Gen Car did in our view result in some positives. There were 19 different race winners, 20 adding the All-Star Race Ryan Blaney won, five first-time winners,  and a strong championship fight. Continue reading

US Bound – New Bio S.F. Edge – Maker Of Motoring History

A biography covering the life of Selwyn Francis Edge, commonly known simply as “SF,” a significant pioneer of motoring in Great Britain, was released in London this morning for sale in the American market.

In 1902, Selwyn Francis Edge drove a Napier to victory in the Gordon Bennett Cup, a race on public roads between Paris in France and Innsbruck in Austria. This it’s said was the start of serious British participation in motor racing. Continue reading

Porsche Supercup Remains Formula 1® Support Series

Both parties have extended the agreement for eight years until 2030. For the 2023 season, the international one-make cup will use the  375 kW (510 PS or 503 horsepower) Porsche 911. Hypercar Hype – Praga Bohema Prototype Shown

“Yet it is also comfortable and practical for head-turning road trips,” Praga said. The Bohema’s interior has a narrow, aerodynamically defined cockpit that it’s claimed seats two, 6.5-feet-tall adults with fully adjustable driver’s seat, steering wheel and pedals, generous luggage space, aircon and useful rear visibility. Only 89 of the $1.31million cars will be built with “potential” sales and aftersales partners in countries including Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, UAE, UK and the US. Once Unthinkable. New Supercars from Nissan, Toyota

The GR Supra GT4 EVO will make its competitive debut in January 2023 at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the first round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season. A ready-to-race GR Supra GT4 EVO will be priced at €186,000 (~$184,771) excluding taxes, customs and logistics fees. Toyota Gazoo Racing engineers have and will continue to provide track support to customer teams and drivers against entries from Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes AMG, Porsche and Ferrari, among others. Tony Spiteri Named General Manager of NASCAR Canada

NASCAR Pinty’s Series races at some of the most famous tracks or prominent Canadian backdrops such as, including Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) during the track’s traditional Victoria Day weekend event, the streets of Toronto and the historic Grand Prix Trois Rivieres (GP3R). In addition, the series made its dirt debut at Ohsweken Speedway earlier this year as well as a trip to Eastbound International Speedway as part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Come Home 2022 celebration, the series’ first race in the province. IndyCar: Palou in Honda Wins at Laguna Seca. Power in Chevy Wins Series Championship Ousting Palou

IndyCar: Rain Soaked Bommarito 500 Goes to Chevy

The Race distance is 260 laps, but the rain delay made it a 213-lap race in daylight, followed by a 47-lap all-out dash under the lights. When the race resumed at 9:05 p.m. local time, track conditions had changed significantly because of the rain-cleaned asphalt. There was better adhesion with lower temperatures after sundown.
