Full-Size Pickup Truck Trade-In Prices Up 7%
Auction prices for full-size pickup trucks are up 7% for the first four months of 2013, according to the May edition of the NADA Used Car Guide. Contributing to the higher values for used, full-size pickups is supply and demand. The supply of full-size pickups up to 8-years-old declined by 17% from 2007 to 2012, and will fall by an additional 8% on an annual basis in 2013, NADA predicts. Toyota Shows Heavily Restyled 2014 Tundra Pickup at CAS
Since Tundra is selling in small volumes far below what Toyota originally thought probable (7,000 in January), Toyota continues to work on an upgrade strategy consisting of the price leading SR and volume-leading SR5, but then quickly moving to “well-appointed” and progressively more expensive Limited, and now two premium grades, “Platinum” and the all-new “1794 Edition.” The new 1794 Edition refers to the ranch, founded in the year 1794, on which the Tundra plant is located in San Antonio. Whether you need an oil well to pay for the new plush trucks will be revealed closer to launch this September. Tundra’s current price range extends form $26,000 to almost $54,000. Continue reading

New Chevrolet Colorado Concept Begs the Fuel Economy Question: Where oh Where is Ford’s Small U.S. Pickup?
Ford, which once dominated the compact pickup truck segment in the U.S., has said that it will close its Twin Cities, Minn, Ranger plant at the end of this year, offering instead more fuel efficient models of the gigantic F-150 pickup the best selling vehicle in the U.S. at 74,000 units year-to-date. The Toyota Tacoma is currently the best selling mid-size pickup truck in the U.S. at more than 15,000 units year-to-date, outselling an ancient Ranger – last major redesign was in 2001 – by more than 2:1. Ram Tradesman, which goes on sale this spring. Instead of marketing a pickup truck as a fashion accessory for Saturday night cowboys, the Tradesman package is named for the people who take a shower after work, not before.
