The Acura brand is returning to the NTT IndyCar Series for the fourth time this season with 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson driving the #28 Andretti Global Acura-branded Honda at the Freedom 250 race next weekend in Washington DC.* Ericsson will make a special appearance at Chevy Chase Acura in Bethesda, Maryland on Thursday 20 August from 3-5 PM.
“The partnership with Ericsson and Andretti Global comes as Acura seeks to engage a growing audience of passionate motorsports fans US through the NTT IndyCar Series. Through the month of July, IndyCar viewership is up 17% compared to 2025 and 49% on 2024. Road America’s race was the most-watched non-Indy 500 race since 2011 with an average of 1.8 million viewers, and despite the weather delay in Nashville, 2.9 million viewers stayed on Fox following the world cup and watched interviews with IndyCar’s stars,” Honda Racing said.
“Acura represents the performance and innovation that have long defined the Honda family, and we’re proud to bring that partnership to one of the most anticipated events on the IndyCar calendar. It’s an exciting opportunity for our organizations to showcase the strength of this partnership on a national stage, ” said Jill Gregory. President, Andretti Global.
In three races this season so far, the Acura-backed Honda-powered Indy cars have scored two top-five finishes. Felix Rosenqvist put his #60 on pole at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and finished second in the race. Marcus Armstrong finished fifth in the Acura colors at the Indianapolis 500. Armstrong also earned the Biggest Mover award in Mid-Ohio running Acura colors.
“As Acura celebrates 40 years as an automaker in America, motorsports remains one of the purest expressions of our Precision Crafted Performance DNA. IndyCar provides an exciting platform to bring that performance story to life while connecting Acura with a growing and highly engaged fanbase. Our Honda-powered teams have delivered some impressive performances this season, and we’re excited to see Marcus Ericsson and the entire Andretti Global team continue building on that momentum,” said Hundy Liu, Acura Marketing Brand Manager.
