Hyundai Fined $17.35 Million in Genesis Recall Delay

The Korean scofflaw will also accept additional NHTSA oversight requirements as outlined in a Consent Order because of the manufacturer failing to report a safety defect affecting 2009-2012 Hyundai Genesis vehicles. The Genesis safety defect causes corrosion in brake system components, leading to reduced braking effectiveness and increasing the risk of a crash. Continue reading

More GM Recalls Including Ignition Switches, Airbags, Brakes

The recall crisis at GM continued today with the announcement of six more serious safety defects covering a quarter of a million vehicles. This follows the revelation this week that almost 190,000 GM vehicles will have to be parked outside because they can self-immolate. GM has today recalled almost three quarters of a million late-model vehicles for various safety defects. If there is any good news in the latest safety defects, it is they do not involve deadly ignition switches. Chief Counsel and EVP Mike Millikin admitted such under tough questioning. Millikin went on to say however, the employees could talk to any regulatory agency if they feel the need to. Subaru Recalls 660,000 Vehicles for Rusting Brake Lines

Subaru, popular in snow belt states, says that models currently or formerly registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia are recalled. GM Recalls Another 8.5 Million Vehicles for 6 Safety Defects. $1.2 Billion Charge coming

Chevy Cobalt Used Car Prices Untouched by Switch Recall

On a sales weighted basis, prices of 2005 – 2010 Chevy Cobalt models fell by 9.4% from March to June. By comparison, overall compact car segment prices declined by 10.6%. Prices for Chevy’s recalled HHR fell by a smaller 6.9% over the period. Continue reading

Ford Recall, Stop Sale 2014 F-150 Pickups – Total Steering Loss

The best-selling model in the U.S. cannot be sold because of a safety recall on 2014 F-150 pickup trucks as a result of defective steering. Ford told NHTSA that it is expanding a previous recall because a sensor for the electronic power steering assist is improperly installed by supplier Nexsteer. A total loss of steering is possible.
