Ford Recalls Maverick Pickups for Defective Software

Ford Motor Company is recalling 2022-2024 Maverick compact pickup trucks. If one of the rear turn signals stops working, the vehicle will not adjust the turn signal flash rate frequency to warn the driver that a turn signal is not working correctly. As such, these Mavericks fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108 “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

In the required recall documents just made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford said the Mexican built Mavericks contain rear tail-lamps with two turn signal lamp bulbs on each side. The body control module will not provide an outage notification to the driver if only one of the two rear turn signal lamp bulbs has failed.

Ford dealers will update the body control module software, free of charge as required by US safety regulations. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed 2January 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 23C41. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov about NHTSA recall 23V848.
