Genesis today announced the availability of two new charging features for public charging. Along with the Genesis Home marketplace, these intuitive public charging features give owners increased flexibility and new options on charging. The announcement arrives in the midst of the Trump Administration’s war on EVs, imported cars and incentives for clean transportation.

“With the introduction of in-app charging and plug and charge, we are making it even easier for customers to recharge their electric vehicles while on the go,” said Tedros Mengiste, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “These new features reinforce our commitment to an elevated ownership experience for every customer.”

In App-Charging

Users can now find and pay for charging within the MyGenesis app. Customers of eligible EV vehicles no longer need to manage third-party charging network apps or use a physical credit card with most charging networks across the United States. Within the app, users can locate, navigate to, select, and activate charging stations, as well as monitor their charging sessions. They also have the capability to conveniently add a credit card via Genesis Pay allowing them to complete payments seamlessly. This new feature set will also provide dynamic EV route planning with charger routing, available within both the MyGenesis app and the vehicle’s infotainment screen. In addition, drivers can find a charger in the app and send it directly to their vehicles’ multimedia screen.

Plug and Charge

With plug and charge technology, owners of select Genesis EVs can automatically pay for charging just by plugging in at participating public charging network stations, eliminating the need to use smartphones or physical credit cards. Initially, this new plug and charge feature is available at IONNA, Tesla Supercharger, and select ChargePoint stations. To get started, customers need to activate in-app-charging and set up their vehicle’s plug and charge capability inside their MyGenesis app. After the plug and charge feature is turned on, participating stations will be able to communicate with the customer’s Genesis EV to automatically initiate the charging session and bill the owner accordingly.
