Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is recalling ~392,000 vehicles from its Ford and Lincoln brands for a variety of safety defects according to the latest documents made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week. During the first half of 2025 Ford Motor booked a $1.3 billion loss from repairs of vehicles under warranty, cancellation of plans to build an electric sport utility vehicle and other one-time costs. Ford is operating under a consent order from NHTSA because of its handing of recalls.*
The largest of the latest safety defect recalls involves the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module that controls the bakes on some of the most profitable and popular Ford Motor models in the United States. Here ~312,000 model year 2025 Lincoln Navigator SUVs, Ford F-150 pickups, Expedition SUVs, Bronco SUVs, and Ranger pickups can lose power-brake assist when driving.
In the mandatory safety defect filing made public by NHTSA, Ford said the EBB module software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 25 August 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S77. NHTSA recall 25V488 or 25V-488.
Ford Motor is also recalling ~56,000 model year 2025 F-150 hybrid pickups equipped with a 3.5-liter hybrid electric powertrain. “When the driver or passenger’s seat belt is not buckled and the vehicle is started, the audible warning chime may not activate as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, Occupant Crash Protection,” Ford told NHTSA.
Dealers will update the audio control module software, free of charge as mandated by U.S. safety regulations. Owner notification letters of the safety risk are not expected to be mailed until 25 August 2025. Second letters will be sent once the repair for the safety defect is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25C31. The NHTSA recall or NHTSA Campaign Number is 25V489 or 25V-489.
Ford Motor Company is also recalling ~23,000 model year 2025 Lincoln Aviator SUVs. When closing the windows with the so-called global closing feature, the side rear windows may exert excessive force when encountering an object before they automatically reverse. As such, these Aviator SUVs fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 118, “Power-Operated Window Systems.”
Dealers will update the driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) software, free of charge as required by U.S. safety regulations. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 15 September 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25C33. The NHTSA recall or Campaign Number is 25V484 or 25V-484
