Toyota Motor Corp. (7203 Prime of the Tokyo Stock Exchange) will recall ~1 million 2020-2022 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the US because of a possible safety defect with a sensor on the front passenger-side air-bag system. (AutoInformed: Toyota Posts FY2024 Q2 Net Income of $18.4 Billion)
The recalled cars, SUVs and vans have the so-called Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors in the front passenger seat that could have been improperly manufactured, causing a short circuit. This would prevent the airbag system from properly classify the occupant’s weight, and the airbag may not deploy as designed in certain crashes, increasing the risk of injury.
For all of the involved vehicles with the potential safety defect, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors, and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to owners as required by US regulations. Toyota will notify customers by the middle of February 2024.
Toyota said that information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. To see if your Toyota or Lexus is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.
For any additional questions, customer support is also available by calling the Toyota Brand Engagement Center (1-800-331-4331) for Toyota vehicles. Customer support is also available by calling the Lexus Brand Engagement Center (1-800-255-3987) for Lexus vehicles.
