Acura said today that it has opened reservations for its first all-electric model – the all-new 2024 ZDX performance SUV and high-performance ZDX Type S, the most powerful Acura SUV ever. All Acura ZDX sales will take place through a new, omni-channel digital sales process, claimed to be a simple and intuitive shopping method from home or at an Acura dealership.

The 2024 ZDX A-Spec is forecast to start in the $60,000 range with a single-motor (rear-wheel-drive) powertrain. A more powerful dual-motor (all-wheel-drive) configuration is also available. ZDX Type S has a performance tuned dual-motor AWD powertrain producing ~ 500 horsepower and is expected to start in the $70,000 range.

The largish, grotesque to some AutoInformed readers, ZDX is being co-developed with GM* using the highly flexible global EV platform powered by Ultium batteries. What fun for brand managers – a common platform for Cadillac and Acura SUVs? Acura eventually will launch additional EV models starting in 2026 based on the company’s own global EV architecture.

First client deliveries are slated for early 2024. ZDX reservation holders will receive an Acura Energy Key Card that provides exclusive benefits including discounts to Acura entertainment partners and special events, including the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. ZDX Energy Key Cards will be available to reservation holders both as a physical card and downloadable card in their digital wallet

*GM and Honda have developed a working relationship over many years, including several nascent projects focused on electric and autonomous vehicle technologies:

  • In 2013, the two companies began working together on the co-development of a next-generation fuel cell system and hydrogen storage technologies.
  • In 2018, Honda joined GM’s EV battery module development efforts.
  • In 2020, GM and Honda announced plans to co-develop two EVs, including the Honda Prologue, to be launched in early 2024, soon followed by Acura’s first EV SUV.
  • The companies also have an ongoing relationship with Cruise and are working together on the development of the Cruise Origin, one of the first purpose-built fully autonomous vehicles designed for driverless ride-hail and delivery.
