Mazda, Subaru, Toyota to Make Future Generation De-Carbonized Internal Combustion Engines

Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) Subaru Corporation (Subaru), Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) said today in a joint release that each is committed to developing new internal combustion engines tailored to electrification and the pursuit of carbon neutrality. “This process has clarified the role that future engines will play in achieving carbon neutrality. With the next generation of engines, the three companies will seek to not only improve stand-alone engine performance but also optimize their integration with electric drive units, harnessing the advantages of each,” the Japanese automakers said. Ford F-150 Lighting Debuts in Norway in 2024

Ford Motor, along with all other global makers, is pursuing complex strategies and elaborate routes while transitioning to electric vehicles. EV demand is accelerating – reinforced and spurred by regulations – in the face of the dire effects of global warming – some, if not most, caused by the ongoing use of fossil fuels and what was in effect denial of the negative consequences of the exclusive use of fossil fuels in transportation. Ford’s challenge is to profitably maintain during this transition both a line of EVs from Ford Model e and the so-called Ford Blue internal combustion vehicles that at some point – perhaps near at hand – are doomed, but remain the foundation of the business. CARB Regulation Limits Chemical Refrigerants to Lower Levels

The refrigerants, known as hydrofluorocarbons or HFCs, are super pollutants because they trap heat in the atmosphere thousands of times more effectively than carbon dioxide, the most prevalent greenhouse gas. These rules can serve as a national model for super pollutant reduction and come at a time when the newly elected Biden Administration is promising to do something about Global Warming after years of Republican resistance or malfeasance.
