DOT Wants to Eliminate Needless Trucking Paperwork
In what has been a largely symbolic act, President Obama launched the Administration’s regulatory initiative in January 2011 by issuing Executive Order 13563. That called for a government-wide review of regulations on the books, with the goal of eliminating or modifying out-of-date, ineffective or overly burdensome regulations. U.S. DOT Closes 26 Bus Operations in Its Largest Crackdown
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced today that it has shut down 26 bus operations, declaring them “imminent hazards” to public safety, the largest single safety crackdown in DOT’s history. Continue reading
New DOT Rule Decreases Truck Driver Operating Times
“This final rule is the culmination of the most extensive and transparent public outreach effort in our agency’s history,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro.
Ferro, an Obama Administration appointee, is former trucking association executive and lobbyist. Prior to her appointment as the head of truck safety at the Department of Transportation, Ferro was president of the Maryland Motor Truck Association for six years. Moreover, the association supported the Bush Administration increase in driver hours. Continue reading

Sting Operations Hit ~550 CDL Training Schools
More than 550 cheating Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training schools were found in violation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards of safety. The CDL schools have received notices of proposed removal from FMCSA’s national training provider registry. An additional 97 training providers remain under investigation for compliance issues.
“American families should have confidence that our school bus and truck drivers are following every letter of the law and that starts with receiving proper training before getting behind the wheel,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. Continue reading →
