Three Peat! Corvette Takes Makers’ and Drivers’ Titles in IMSA GT Le Mans at Road Atlanta Season Final
The real stars of the 10-hour race was a clear in class win by the No. 911 Porsche GT Team Porsche 911 RSR and co-drivers Nick Tandy, Patrick Pilet and Frederic Makowiecki. In the ‘luckless but fast category,’ Chip Ganassi racing put in a fast performance only to see the #3 Corvette sister car, the # 4 Corvette C7.R of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Fassler, hold off (it looked to be legal moves at AutoInformed and the stewards based on provisional results) the No. 67 Ford GT in the final hour to secure a second consecutive championship for the #3. Corvette Wins at Laguna Seca. Just Points Ahead of GT40
Sports car racing is a bit like the ‘restaurant row phenomenon” where multiple offerings in proximity – in this case fender-to-fender or exhaust-to-front bumper kissing at racing speeds – allows all to thrive in a cacophonous street and track democracy where you ‘run what you brung’ machines that are legal on the track. And the street legal versions of these cars have never been so edgy, so close to the pro versions particularly in the GT classes that there is a performance heaven on earth. Continue reading

Silverstone: Toyota Beats Porsche. Chan Racing Wins LMP2. Ford Bests Ferrari, Porsche in GT Pro. Ferrari takes GT Am
The race – pure England at this time of year (or any time) – was run under mixed weather conditions, forcing teams to choose between tires – slicks, so-called intermediates or rain rubber in changing conditions that forced drivers to extract the best performance out of the world’s most exciting racing machines. Continue reading

Ford GT Returns. Le Mans Bound?
Ford would not confirm an endurance-racing program is underway, but it is virtually certain. Ford’s twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 raced to three wins in its first season of the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2014, including a win at the 12 Hours of Sebring, along with seven podiums and more than 15,000 endurance-racing miles. Carroll Shelby – Sports Car Racer and Builder – Dead at 89
Carroll Hall Shelby, a legendary sports car racer and builder died Thursday at age 89, his company, Carroll Shelby International, said today. The creator of the Cobra, Shelby passed away yesterday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Carroll Shelby is the only man to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race as a driver, team owner and automotive manufacturer. Shelby once told me that he “spent a ton of old man Ford’s money, and kicked Ferrari’s ass,” which his team did for successive years at the 24 Hours of Le Mans until a rule change made the brutally fast and reliable cars illegal. Another? Ford GT Heritage Edition – Holman Moody
The original Ford GT40 prototype debuted at the 1964 New York Auto Show. Now Ford is returning to New YAWK for the first public appearance of its new GT Heritage Edition – the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Edition. This marks the final 2022 Heritage Edition paying tribute to the GT40 MK II race car that completed the famous 1-2-3 sweep at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, with wins from 1966 to 1969, and in born-again form in 2016. The GT Heritage Edition will debut alongside the 1966 Ford GT40 MK II. Continue reading →
