Ford Motor U.S. July Sales Decline 4% in a Market that Grew 9%

Ford Motor Company’s July sales in the U.S. declined 4% as the Number Two automaker failed to keep pace with a recovering U.S. auto market. Sales executives attributed the weak performance to lower fleet sales, which were off -16% but still made up 27% of Ford’s 173,482 vehicle sales for the month. This could be viewed as progress of sorts since the fleet share declined from 31% a year earlier. Continue reading

Ford Stays Number Two in May Sales Ahead of Toyota by 6,000

Whether Ford can retain the Number Two spot as it converts plants to build the new 2013 Fusion and Escape as well as the Lincoln MKZ remains to be seen. Ford is capacity restrained and during May it could have sold more of ‘high demand” vehicles such as the Ford Fusion. Continue reading

Ford Motor U.S. Sales Increase 7% in January. Industry up 11%

Ford Motor December Sales Up 10% Tracking Market Growth

How Ford’s sales performance is interpreted depends on whether the Number 2 U.S. automaker in sales should have picked up more than the 3.7% increase in passenger car sales (industry +9%) with all the major Japanese automakers virtually out of the market for months – May to September or later – because of natural disasters. Ford car sales were actually down 16% in December. Lavishly publicized Fiesta sub-compact and Focus compact launches were not strong successes as sticker price resistance appeared to overcome their relatively good fuel efficiency in a year when U.S. gasoline prices stayed well above $3 a gallon. Continue reading

Ford Motor Company October Sales up 6% from Trucks, SUVs

Ford is now emphasizing truck sales and adding crossover sales with them. This is because Ford Motor Company car and retail sales are down in October compared to last year, hurt by bad results at Lincoln (-11% at 6,100 units), and the absence of 7,500 units from now defunct Mercury. With the strength of trucks, though, overall Ford Motor sales of 1,771,801 units is up 10.9%. Fleet sales are 33% of the total, which based on early numbers, appears to be leading the industry, ahead of GM’s 23% of October sales. Continue reading

Ford Q3 2011 pre-tax operating profit was $1.9 billion, or 46 cents per share, with an operating margin of 4.8%. Chrysler remains the smallest and weakest of the Detroit Three with limited international operations. Still, Chrysler is clearly on the mend. Continue reading

Ford Q3 Income, Profits Down as Volume Increases. No Dividend Yet, But Sooner Rather than Later Promised

Ford continues to struggle globally by posting losses in moribund European economies, and – surprisingly – the growth markets of Asia Pacific and Africa.
