Ford Motor (NYSE: F)* said earlier this week that customers can now shop for, finance and purchase Ford Blue Advantage certified pre-owned (CPO) Ford vehicles on Amazon Autos (NASDAQ: AMZN). Key, however, is that the business relationship remains with the participating Ford dealer. Amazon enables the transaction. All follow-up, service, and privacy matters are handled by the dealer, not Amazon. Initially only a small number of dealers are participating. “This new collaboration allows customers to browse a participating local dealer’s inventory directly through Amazon’s website, complete most of the paperwork online, and then schedule a convenient time to pick up the selected vehicle,” said Wendy Lane is senior manager of Ford Blue Advantage vehicles.
Ford and Amazon Autos at a Glance
- 14-Day/1000-Mile Money-Back Guarantee: All certified pre-owned vehicles sold by participating Ford dealers on Amazon Autos come with a money-back guarantee, allowing customers to return the vehicle within 14 days or 1000 miles, whichever comes first.
- Three Tiers of Certification: Ford offers different levels of certification to meet customer needs.
- Gold Certified: For Ford vehicles up to six years old with fewer than 80,000 miles. They undergo a 172-point inspection and include a 12-month/12,000-mile (whichever comes first) comprehensive limited warranty.
- Blue Certified: This can include Ford and other brands up to 10 years old with fewer than 150,000 miles. These vehicles pass a 139-point inspection and come with a 90-day/4000-mile (whichever comes first) comprehensive limited warranty.
- EV Certified: For electric Ford vehicles up to six years old with fewer than 80,000 miles. They receive a specialized 127-point inspection and the same comprehensive warranty coverage as Gold Certified vehicles.
- Online Shopping and Financing: Customers can browse participating inventory within a 75-mile radius, view itemized pricing, and secure financing from a selection of banks, including Ford Credit, all on Amazon.
- Dealer Relationship: The customer relationship remains with the local participating Ford dealer, who handles pricing, vehicle pickup, and all future service needs. Amazon facilitates the initial online transaction.
- Availability: The program is launching in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas, with plans to expand to additional markets.
”The program is new, but initial dealer sign-ups have been positive, with about 160-180 dealers expressing interest and around 20 already launched or launching soon. Ford is gathering feedback to share more insights as the program grows,” said Lane.
