Porsche AG (P911.DE)* said this morning will in future focus on two factory projects in motorsport. Porsche Motorsport will run the Porsche 99X Electric in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Porsche will also run 963 in the North American IMSA WeatherTech series SportsCar Championship. The surprise move abandons some racing that Porsche was long involved with. Porsche Penske Motorsport will end its involvement in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the end of the current season. (However, the cost of new model introductions as well as Trump’s tariff wars and formidable Chinese competition on EVs, dividends for shareholders no doubt weighed heavily on the retreat – AutoCrat.)**

“We very much regret that, due to the current circumstances, we will not be continuing our involvement in the WEC after this season,” said Dr Michael Steiner, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board Research and Development, Porsche AG. Steiner has been at Porsche since 2002 after leaving Daimler AG.

In Formula E, Porsche claimed it  is gaining valuable insights for its electric production sports cars. “In this competitive environment, we will continue to drive forward the development of high-performance vehicles,” said Steiner. “The fourth generation of Formula E cars will be introduced for Season 13 (2026/27) and will bring further development freedom. This will enable Porsche to achieve an even steeper learning curve for its all-electric production vehicles.”

“Motorsport has always been of major importance for Porsche and is an essential part of the brand. We use motorsport as a development platform for future technology and to illustrate the potential of our sports cars,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “With the Porsche 963 in the North American IMSA series and the Porsche 99X Electric in the Formula E World Championship, we want to continue to fight for overall victories in the future. That is our tradition and our focus,” claimed Laudenbach.

**For the 2025 financial year, Porsche AG expects a Group operating return on sales in a range of 10% to 12%. This is below the figure for the 2024 financial year. Besides the additional investments that are planned, the main reasons for this include reduced vehicle sales and an unchanged high cost level in the value chain. In addition, very high depreciation will remain due to the extensive investments of recent years. This forecast includes assumed sales revenues in the region of ~€39 to  €40 billion.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
