Ford Recalls New 2011 Explorer for Defective Seat Backs

During a crash, the seat back may not provide the required strength, increasing injury risk.

Ford Motor Company is recalling 2011 model year Explorer sport utility vehicles because the second row seat backs are not strong enough to comply with U.S. safety standards during a crash.

Dealers have been told to stop the sale of affected vehicles until repairs are performed.

Explorer models built from 15 July 2010 through 13 December 2010 at the Chicago Assembly plant with Lear supplied “60%” seats might be affected, according to a Ford filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
