More Ford Motor Recalls – Fires, Power Loss, Seat Belts

Numerous Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) recalls covering a wide variety of serious Ford and Lincoln brand safety defects were publicly released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this morning. If AutoInformed has the count right, that’s 35 Ford Motor recalls so far this year.

Ford Motor is recalling more than 4000 2024-2025 F-150, Expedition, and 2024 Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 3.5- liter GTDI engines. The engine may have a misaligned engine cup plug, which can result in a rapid oil leak. An oil leak in the presence of an ignition source, such as hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the risk of a fire. In addition, the loss of oil can result in loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is also recalling a previous 2019-2020 Transit Connect recall because they were repaired incorrectly under NHTSA recall number 20V636 or 20V-636. The powertrain control module (PCM) software has fail-safe temperature threshold values higher than intended for the engine. This may delay engine cooling and result in engine overheating.

Ford is also recalling more than 105,000 2018-2020 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. The seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend.

Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Cylinder Head Cups

Owners will be notified by mail in late May and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer inspect the 13mm cylinder head cup plugs (holes 431 and 641) for misalignment through the wheel-well and in the engine compartment using a special service kit and instructions. Dealers will install a secondary shorter 13mm cup plug for any hole position that fails the cup plug inspection process. There will be no charge for this service as required by long standing U.S. safety regulations. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S30. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to nhtsa.gov about NHTSA 25V198 or 25V-198,

Ford Transit Connect Overheating

Ford is recalling some 2019-2020 Transit Connect vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under NHTSA recall number 20V636 or 20V-636. The powertrain control module (PCM) software has fail-safe temperature threshold values higher than intended for the engine. This may delay engine cooling and result in engine overheating. Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge as mandated by U.S. regulations. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 28 April 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S32. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to nhtsa.gov about NHTSA 25V196 or 25V-196.

Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Seat Belt Recalls

Ford is also recalling more than 105,000 2018-2020 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. The seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend. Dealers will inspect the seat belt retractor date codes and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, free of charge as required by U.S. safety regulations. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 14 April 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S31. Some vehicles in this recall that were previously inspected under NHTSA recall 24V099 or 24V-099 and did not have parts replaced will need to have this new recall completed.
