In the seemingly ever-expanding range of extreme off-road vehicles, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) today revealed the Explorer Tremor in a rambling social media post. Just bring money, AutoInformed bets that this will be ~$55,000 – $60,000 for its mud-ready wheels, depending on the incentives that may be in play when you order one.

“When we set out to develop an Explorer Tremor, we challenged ourselves to do something different. We wanted to build an off-road machine engineered to handle challenging terrain,” said Matthew Duffield, Explorer brand manager.

“Working closely with Brian Naspinsky, our Explorer Vehicle engineering manager, and his team, we set out to create an Explorer that could confidently tackle muddy trails, sandy beaches, and rocky mountain passes. We looked at every aspect of the vehicle, from its suspension and drivetrain to its underbody protection and technology, and made targeted improvements to enhance its off-road performance,” claimed Duffield.

Quick Takes

  • Powerful Engine Options: An optional 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine Ford rated at 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the same engine used in Explorer ST. An optional 2.3-liter option is available for those who want what is presumably more efficient.
  • Intelligent Drivetrain: Standard 4-wheel drive (AWD) with a Torsen limited-slip differential helps traction on slippery or sandy terrain.
  • Off-Road-Tuned Suspension: Tremor has a unique suspension system that includes specially tuned springs and sway bars. This gives it an extra inch of ride height.
  • Underbody Protection: There is underbody protection at the front and rear of the vehicle to protect components.
  • Advanced Technology: Inside, latest technology, including the Ford Digital Experience, Copilot 360 Assist 2.0, and optional items such as massaging front seats and an optional 14-speaker premium B&O audio system. BlueCruise 1.5 is optional.

The 2026 Explorer Tremor joins the (marketing babble alert> “Active, sporty ST-Line, high performance ST, and luxurious Platinum models. It’s a testament to our commitment to providing customers with a vehicle that perfectly fits their needs and lifestyles. For me, the Explorer Tremor represents the culmination of a vision. It’s a vehicle that enables opportunities to explore and create memories that will last a lifetime. I can’t wait to see where our customers will take it,” said Naspinsky.
