Rain Shortens Fourth Annual Roadkill Nights – Street-legal Drag Racing on Woodward Avenue
A total of 128 street-legal cars were on a specially prepped 1/8-mile drag strip on Woodward Avenue between Rapid Street and South Boulevard to compete in high-powered drag racing for cash prizes. Heavy rains ended the races early, so 16 total finalists split $20,000 in cash prizes. Continue reading
Mustang Running in NASCAR Cup Starting at Daytona 500
Mustang’s first official competition was in 1964, when it won – against smart money – the Tour de France Automobile, a 4,000 mile, 10-day rally. Soon after, it began racing legacy in SCCA Trans-Am. IMSA, NHRA, Formula Drift and NASCAR Xfinity – NASCAR’s second tier series followed as Ford wandered in and out and back into racing over the decades. Continue reading

Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes Wins Hungarian GP over Ferrari.
The upshot: Hamilton (213 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship in a Mercedes Silver Arrow by 24 points ahead of the hated Ferrari driven by Sebastian Vettel (189 points) with Bottas (132 points) in P4. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport (345 points) leads Ferrari (335 points) by a mere 10 points in the Constructors’ Championship. Continue reading

Both Ford GTs are now in a tense points battle with Corvette Racing with four races remaining. Mueller and Hand unofficially now have 208 points in a Ford, with Garcia and Magnussen a point behind with 207 in the C7.R Corvette and Briscoe and Westbrook one point further back with 206. It’s the latest attempt to position Toyota as an American company against the background booms of the Trump trade wars. Toyota has 14 manufacturing plants in North America – if you count Mexico, which is also under siege. There are ten in the U.S. There are 1500 dealerships here. Toyota Gazoo Racing claimed a 1-2 result, with Fernando Alonso winning at his debut at one of the world’s most famous endurance races. Cadillac, Acura Win in Detroit on Belle Isle Streets
In the GTD class, Katherine Legge and Meyer Shank Racing successfully repeated their class win here from one year ago, but with Mario Farnbacher joining the lineup in the #86 Acura NSX GT3. Starting second, Legge unsuccessfully challenged the leading Lamborghini of Bryan Sellers throughout the first 40 minutes. Meanwhile, Justin Marks ran a close third in the #93 MSR Acura. Aussie Will Power Wins the 102nd Indianapolis 500 for Penske
Penske has done far better than Chevrolet with 17 victories in the run for the Hoosier milk, which Power spilled all over himself, the parade Queen and others in the winner’s circle. Along side him his wife, Elizabeth Cannon Power, was lovingly hysterical and elated when she started breathing again and could speak – was as entertaining as the race. Continue reading

Automotive Hall of Fame Honors Roy Lunn and GT40
Lunn was ideal to work for Ford. A former designer and engineer for AC, Jowett, and Aston Martin, he previously led a Le Mans campaign for Aston and his work had led him, eventually, to a position in Dearborn – via Ford of England where he designed the Anglia. In that Detroit suburb, notable for a racist Mayor, Lunn contributed to the mid-engine 1962 Ford Mustang I. Continue reading
