EU Car Sales Continue to Evaporate in October – Off -5%
The economic decline of the European Union continued in October as sales of new passenger cars contracted by 5% to 959,412 compared to October of 2011. It was the thirteenth straight month of sales declines across the economically embattled Eurozone as the trade bloc comprised of 27 bickering nations is unable to move out of the economic doldrums. Ford China Sales Grow in October as Focus Dominates Results
Ford Motor and its communist government dictated partners set a sales record during October in China as the firms sold 60,518 cars and light trucks. Market leader General Motors sold more than 250,000 vehicles during the same period in the world’s largest car market. Continue reading

GM Sells More Than 250,000 Vehicles in China – an October Record
General Motors and its communist government required joint ventures sold 251,812 vehicles in China, a record for the month of October. Sales were up 14% on an annual basis, as GM’s major brands in China reached new highs for the month in the world’s largest auto market. GM is the largest automaker in the Chinese market. General Motors U.S. Sales Increase 5% in October
General Motors Company today reported October sales in the United States of 195,764 vehicles, an increase of 5% compared to October 2011. Overall industry growth was 7% for the month, and the industry is running at a seasonally adjusted annual rate or SAAR of more than 14 million retail units. GM’s year-over-year sales to retail customers were up 7%, and sales to fleet customers were down 2%. Continue reading

Ford Motor U.S. Sales Flat in October – Second Month on Hold
Ford Motor Company posted weak sales of 168,456 total vehicles in October, unchanged from a year ago in an industry that grew more than 8%. Retail sales were up 2% compared to last year. It was Ford’s second straight no-growth month of the year. Continue reading

Chrysler Group U.S. Sales Up 10% in October
Chrysler Group today reported U.S. sales of 126,185 units, a 10% increase compared with sales in October 2011 (114,512 units) It was the Group’s best October sales since 2007, and it appeared inline with industry growth of 8% based on preliminary numbers. Continue reading

October U.S. Sales Forecast Sunny at more than 12 million SAAR
New-vehicle retail sales in October are forecast at 943,200 units, a 13% increase in volume compared with October 2011. This works out to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate or SAAR of 12 million new cars and light trucks. If true, October will be the second consecutive month above 12 million units, the first time since April and May 2008 before the Great Recession set in. Continue reading

Honda Hybrid Sales Top 1 Million. 3M More to Catch Toyota
Honda Motor Company said today that worldwide sales of hybrid vehicles have now surpassed 1 million units. This milestone was reached at the end of September after the start of sales of the first generation Insight in Japan during November 1999. At the time, Insight fuel economy was rated at 35km/liter, then the world’s highest fuel efficiency among all mass-production gasoline-powered vehicles. Continue reading
NADA Chairman Says Automakers Use Unfair Business Practices
The new chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association, Bill Underriner, said today that automakers need to stop intruding into dealerships. After noting the Tigers are back in the World Series at the Automotive Press Association in Detroit, he said there’s “good energy here. The auto industry is doing its part to lead the economic recovery. But we still have a long way to go – not just here but all around the country. Auto sales are up, but financial pressures are too…especially on dealerships.” Continue reading

Next Generation Chevrolet Silverado Pickup to Debut in December
Chevrolet will unveil what is calling the all-new Silverado 1500 full-size pickup on 13 December at a special event in the Detroit area. In a release, Chevy claimed, “bold exterior design of the new Silverado reflects the enhanced capabilities of the truck while features such as jewel-like, projector beam headlamps showcase the careful attention given to every detail.” Presumably, this also means a “bold new grille.” Continue reading

September EU Vehicle Sales Drop 11%. Eurozone Crisis Unabated
EU new vehicle registrations continued their downward slump in September declining 11% from September 2011.
