GM India Hires Scabs to Break Chevrolet Cruze Plant Strike
The General Motors India strike by the Gujurat Kamdar Mandal union is reminiscent of UAW sit down strikes during 1936-37 in Michigan, which led to recognition of the Union and the right to collective bargaining by the world’s largest automaker. Thus far Solidarity House, the UAW’s international headquarters in Detroit has remained silent on the GKM strike, and refused multiple requests for comment. General Motors in the U.S. simply says it is working with local groups in India. Continue reading

General Motors India Strike Continues at Cruze and Aveo Plant
More than 1,000 workers at the General Motors Halol plant in Gujurat State, India have been on strike for the last three weeks in an increasingly bitter struggle that has seen the workers forcibly ejected from the plant after the government declared the strike illegal. It was reminiscent of UAW sit down strikes during 1936-37 in Michigan. Continue reading

Buick Returns to U.S. Compact Car Market with $25,000 Verano
The all-new 2012 Buick Verano compact sedan debuts at the North American International Auto Show next week. It’s Buick’s third new model in the past two years in North America, following the Enclave crossover, and the LaCrosse and Regal sedans.
Buick is attempting the same positioning it has used on those, as it reenters the small car segment. So no surprise that Buick is claiming Verano is a combination of luxury and technology that can compete with Audi and Lexus models, according to John Schwegman, vice president of Buick marketing. Bailout Blessing! GM Saves 184 Jobs in Three Plants
General Motors has just announced a $163.2-million investment in its operations in Flint and Bay City, Michigan, and Defiance, Ohio, to support engine production for the Chevrolet Volt, Chevrolet Cruze and a new Chevrolet small car to be built in the United States. Driving Impression – Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet is finally replacing its aging Cobalt with the Cruze sedan, which is already on sale in more than 60 countries in Asia and Europe since 2009. The new Cruze is a design hybrid since its engineering was done at Opel in Germany and Daewoo in Korea. North American versions went into production at Lordstown, Ohio this summer. Continue reading
