Lawsuit Claims Emissions Cheating in GM Duramax Diesels
The suit also names Bosch as a defendant, adding that “GM did not act alone.” Bosch developed, manufactured, and tested the Electronic Diesel Control unit that allowed GM to implement the defeat devices, according to the suit. Bosch control units are found in almost all the vehicles found or alleged to have been manipulating emissions, including Mercedes, Fiat Chrysler and Chevrolet. Continue reading

Dieselgate2? EPA Says Jeep, Ram Diesels Use Illegal Software
In what looks to be a sequel the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal, EPA is working in coordination with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which has also issued a notice of violation to FCA. EPA and CARB have both initiated investigations based on FCA’s alleged actions. FCA could be liable for civil penalties and injunctive relief for the alleged violations. EPA is also investigating whether the auxiliary emission control devices constitute “defeat devices,” which are illegal. Continue reading

NADA, American Truck Dealers Oppose Cleaner Trucks
The groups say that the rule will add $14,000 to the cost of a new truck through mandates based on potentially untested technologies. EPA, States Say Get the Copper out of Brake Pads
Funny thing about automakers, they are against regulation except when individual states start to wreak havoc with their production lineup, then automakers are all for strong central regulation. This tendency was in evidence with today’s announcement that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the automotive industry and the states signed an agreement to reduce the use of copper and other materials in brake pads.
