More Takata Flack – Ford Issues Do-Not-Drive Advisory

Ford Motor today issued a “do-not-drive advisory for owners of vehicles who have not yet had their vehicles repaired under three past Takata airbag safety recalls. These previously announced recalls are Ford recalls 15S21, 17S42, and 19S01. The first issued in 2015, involve several vehicle lines equipped with Takata non-desiccated airbag inflators. This do-not-drive advisory is the second Takata related do-not-drive recall advisory issued by Ford and it is intended to encourage owners to complete the recall repairs immediately. Airbag Shrapnel at Nissan Prompts Recall of 216,678

The rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death. The so-called PSDI-5D inflator – no surprise here – was made by now bankrupt Takata at Monclova, Mexico. How long Nissan new about the deadly defect is unknown. Takata Pleads Guilty of Falsifying Data on Airbag Shrapnel

Takata has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice – DOJ – whereby it will plead guilty for falsifying airbag testing data and reports that were provided to automakers. Continue reading
