Wheels Off? GM Front Wheel Bolt Recall on 24-in Wheels

General Motors, (NYSE: GM) is recalling ~2457 model year 2025–2026 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban 1500, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with 24-inch wheels. Incorrect bolts may have been installed on the left and right front wheel hubs, which can result in the bolts loosening or deforming over time.

“If a bolt breaks or completely loosens during vehicle operation, additional load could be placed on the three remaining bolts and lead to partial loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall only affects vehicles with 24-inch wheels that (a) received the dealer-installed accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) or (b) received a front hub replacement in service. Vehicles with other size wheels are not included,” GM said in the mandatory safety defect recall filing made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this morning.

“A GM product investigator discovered in April 2026 that the kit provided to dealers for installation of an accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) did not include separate instructions or special fasteners for vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels, as required by GM’s specifications. As a result, dealers may have incorrectly reused production-installed bolts. GM also found that its electronic parts catalog (EPC)did not identify the correct bolt for service operations involving replacement or reattachment of the front hub bearing on vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels,” GM said.

GM also said it is “not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with this condition. GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall on 7 May 2026.”

Dealers will replace the front left and right wheel hub bolts, free of charge as required by law. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 29 June 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. GM’s number for this recall is N262554630. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall are searchable on NHTSA.gov on 14 May 2026.
