US Electrified Vehicle Sales Soar in 2024

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released its monthly update to National Transportation Statistics (NTS), a guide to historical national-level transportation trends. Of interest to AutoInformed are trends in Gasoline Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales; the Average Age of Automobiles and Trucks in Operation; and U.S.-Canadian and U.S.-Mexican Border Land-Freight Gateway Travel and Goods Movement.

A trend of note is that during the last three years, sales of Hybrids, EVs and PHEVs have come close to doubling, representing ~2,500,000 in annual sales during 2024. Continue reading

Alternative Fueling Stations Way Up Since 2020. So What?

Alternative energy sources have been at the forefront of strategies to reduce carbon emissions. This is especially true in transportation, the sector responsible for the most greenhouse gas emissions in the US. However, the US has more than 280,000,000 registered vehicles, begging the question what are we doing about the planet killing use of existing fuels for the vast majority of vehicles that are on and will remain on the roads? US January Aviation Fuel Use Recovering

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released US  airlines’ January 2023 fuel cost and consumption numbers. US scheduled service airlines used 1.413 billion gallons of fuel, 4.0% less fuel than in December 2022 (1.471 billion gallons), but only -0.7% less than in pre-pandemic January 2019 as the economy remains resilient. Infected – November 2022 US Aviation Fuel Consumption Down

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released U.S. airlines’ November fuel cost and consumption numbers show US scheduled service airlines used 1.398 billion gallons of fuel, 2.5% less fuel than in October 2022 (1.434 billion gallons) and 3.2% less than in pre-pandemic November 2019. US Recovering from Covid. Greenhouse Gasses a Problem

US Transportation Unemployment Below Pre-Pandemic Rate

The August 2022 rate fell 1.8 percentage points from 6.4% in August 2021 and was below the pre-pandemic August level of 4.8% in August 2019. Unemployment in the transportation sector reached its highest level – an all-time record high – during the COVID-19 pandemic (15.7%) in May 2020 and July 2020 under the Trump Administration.
