However, Volvo delivered 64,436 retail vehicles in December, a decline of -18.1% compared to the same month in 2020. “The result was significantly influenced by continued component supply shortages, which affected production and consequently deliveries to customers,” Volvo said. Almost 40% of all new Volvo cars sold in December were Recharge models, with fully electric cars comprising 7.4%. Continue reading

Electrify America, Volvo to Give XC40 Drivers Fast Charging
The incentive will apply to first owners of all 2022 XC40 and C40 Recharge vehicles. Additional models and “benefits” will be announced by the Chinese-owned Volvo. Once drivers have used all of their complimentary charging, they will automatically be eligible for Electrify America’s Pass+, said to allow drivers to charge at discounted rates, with membership fees covered by Volvo for an entire year. Tim Lee Named Chairman of GM China
Tim Lee is the new Chairman of GM China with responsibility for 12 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 55,000 employees. Stefan Jacoby, most recently the ousted CEO of Volvo Cars, will become Executive Vice President Consolidated International Operations, leading the company’s operations in more than 100 countries and territories in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. Milestones – Volvo Produces New Engine Family
Volvo Car Group is now manufacturing the first versions of a new, high-efficiency four-cylinder engine family after two years of preparation. The engine plant in Skövde, Sweden is making new smaller engines that are claimed to deliver higher performance than today’s six-cylinder units, while offering lower fuel consumption than the current generation of four-cylinder units. Geely and Detroit Electric to Develop Electric Cars for China
Geely Automobile Group and recently revived Detroit Electric brand said companies have a strategic partnership to develop electric vehicles and electric drive systems for sale in China. The first EV will go on sale under Geely’s Emgrand brand starting in Q1 of 2014, the companies claimed. Continue reading

Volvo Announces Swedish Vacation Sweepstakes
Volvo Cars of North America’s (VCNA) today announced the third annual edition of a Swedish vacation contest that is designed to promote Volvo’s overseas delivery program. In conjunction with VisitSweden, Tourism in Skåne and the West Swedish Tourist Board, a contest is being run whereby two people can win a one week vacation in West Sweden and Skåne.

Lotus has held its first ever UK test drives for its hyper-SUV – the Lotus Eletre – at the Goodwood Motor Circuit last Sunday as part of a new electric vehicle promotional event staged in conjunction with the Festival of Speed or is that now a festival of marketing? The Lotus Eletre claims to be the first of a new breed of pure electric performance SUVs.
