Team Penske Front Row for 108th Indianapolis 500, But…

Chevrolet now holds 13 earned pole awards historically, and seven in the 2.2-liter twin turbo V6 era since 2012. Reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden led the two-hour practice today as teams shifted from the all-out speed of PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying last weekend to stable setups for the race Sunday, 26 May. Newgarden turned a best lap of 226.238 mph in the No. 2 Shell Powering Progress Team Penske Chevrolet. However, 17 of the 33 starting positions are occupied by Honda, always a formidable racing competitor on any track. Continue reading

Alex Palou and Honda Outstanding at Mid-Ohio Indy 200

The result marks Palou’s third IndyCar win in a row in 2023 and fourth in the last five races. It also extends his championship lead to 110 points over teammate and now-second place driver in the standings, Scott Dixon who finished second. Will Power, driver of the #12 Chevrolet IndyCar V6 Verizon Team Penske – a fierce rival of Chip Ganassi the owner of  Palou’s and Power’s race cars took third place. Ganassi Racing Honda Wins Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix

From a racing fan’s point of view, AutoInformed remains worried about the lack of real racing in IndyCar. Street tracks present huge problems. Detroit, to our eyes, was too narrow, too short and way too bumpy. The longest straightaway needed to be resurfaced – like many Michigan roads the second half of it needs to be fixed – smoothed so passing can occur without bumps and carbon-fiber wing benders. This is an IndyCar problem. Restarts lead to more restarts, but on street circuits – the best way to overtake and pass is on the restart where everyone is bunched up – more accidents, more flags, more restarts with little sustained racing. IndyCar: Rain Soaked Bommarito 500 Goes to Chevy

The Race distance is 260 laps, but the rain delay made it a 213-lap race in daylight, followed by a 47-lap all-out dash under the lights. When the race resumed at 9:05 p.m. local time, track conditions had changed significantly because of the rain-cleaned asphalt. There was better adhesion with lower temperatures after sundown. The race was a contest of strategies as well as drivers and teams. Continue reading

IndyCar – Chevy Beats Honda in Final Belle Isle Race

Belle Isle was as much a contest of strategies: three stints, one with Red tires that are soft and sticky and faster, but quickly degrading tires; or using the Black more durable racing rubber for two or three pitstops. Continue reading

Brickyard Saturday – Power, Cindric Win for Penske

“Roger Penske has had a rough year as far as the team goes. I’m really happy for the whole group. Because it’s not for lack of effort,” said Power. They worked really hard during the Month of May and we were all scratching our heads at the end. I’ve been here six times now (five for road course wins, one Indy 500 win) in this Victory Lane; pretty special place for me. This win goes to the whole group; they deserve it more than me.” Continue reading

Aussie Will Power Wins the 102nd Indianapolis 500 for Penske

Penske has done far better than Chevrolet with 17 victories in the run for the Hoosier milk, which Power spilled all over himself, the parade Queen and others in the winner’s circle. Along side him his wife, Elizabeth Cannon Power, was lovingly hysterical and elated when she started breathing again and could speak – was as entertaining as the race. Continue reading
