Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is recalling a variety of vehicles for safety defects according to the mandatory recall documents released today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Ford is operating under a NHTSA consent decree because of its previous problems with defective vehicles and if or how safety recalls were conducted. The largest recall (~103,174) covers 2023-2025 model year F-150 vehicles equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design. This is a recall of a previously ineffective recall as customer complaints continued to be received by NHTSA.
“Stripped rear axle hub splines can result in vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied or cause a loss of motive power in 4X2 operation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash,” Ford said in the NHTSA filing. “As the rear axle hub bolt becomes loose, customers may report a clicking noise. If the bolt breaks, customers may report a rattle noise (the bolt head will be contained within the wheel center cap),” Ford said.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in phases, beginning 18 August 2025 through 22 May 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S82. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 23V896 or 23V-896. The new NHTSA safety defect recall number is 25V512 or 25V-512.
Ford Motor is also recalling ~41,875 2020-2022 model-year Lincoln Corsair vehicles. Water may enter into the rearview camera connectors, which can cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display or display a distorted image.
Dealers will replace the rearview camera harness and rearview camera, free of charge as required by U.S. safety regulations. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed 18 August 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S83. The NHTSA recall number is 25V510 or 25V-510.
Ford Motor is also recalling ~2361 model-year 2022 F-150 vehicles that were repaired incorrectly under recalls NHTSA recalls 22V686 or 22V-686 and 23V802 or 23V-802 . The parking lights may flicker when the headlights are activated. These F-150 models fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Dealers will replace the light emitting diode control module and update the software, free of charge as required by law. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 15 September 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25C38. NHTSA recall Number: 25V515 or 25V-515.
Ford Motor is also recalling 8 model-year 2021 Mach-E vehicles that were repaired incorrectly under a previous NYTSA recall 24V777. “An Over-The-Air (OTA) update to the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) may result in a loss of power brake assist, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and driver assistance features,” Ford said in the required NHTSA safety defect filing.
Dealers will update the ABS calibration software, free of charge as required by law. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 15 September 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S81. The new NHTSA safety defect recall number is 25V513 or NHTSA 25V-513.
