The all-new compact sedan is the latest attempt – after spending billions of dollars on decent product – to resuscitate the brand’s once award-winning glory days in segments it once dominated as well as segments undreamed of in Detroit during the Ike and Mamie good years and the swinging sixties. Continue reading

How Many Doors does a Coupe Have?
“The (fill in the blank) includes all the technical highlights of the current Cayenne, but has an even more dynamic design and new technical details that position it as more progressive, athletic, and emotional,” claims Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG and a man with a mechanical engineering degree from Braunschweig University who has worked in enough body shops to know better. (eins, zwei, drei, vier, funf) Continue reading

Mercedes-AMG GT 53/63 Starts at +$100,000. Tops +$160,000
EQ Boost on the 53 model uses stored electric power from a 48-volt battery through an
Integrated-Starter-Generator, a powerful electric motor that combines the functions of a starter and an alternator. This assists the
internal combustion engine with up to an additional 21 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft.
of torque at low engine speeds. The Electric Auxiliary Compressor, exclusive to
AMG 53 models, assists in spooling the engine’s exhaust-gas-driven turbocharger
quickly at low-to-mid speeds, and it is capable of reaching 70,000 rpm in less
than a third of a second. Continue reading

Supercomputers, 3D Printing Used for Mustang Shelby GT500
“We created and studied designs among the engineering teams and proved out different strategies long before we built our first prototype cars,” said Matt Titus, Ford Performance vehicle engineer. “Not only did this improve the effectiveness of the designs, it reduced the time it took to develop the GT500 – and the costs associated with that.” Continue reading

JAXA and Toyota Agree on Future Mobility – a Lunar Rover

Start of production of new BMW Flagship – 7 Series Sedan
A so-called “digital launch” was a different challenge for the production start: It means production of a new BMW is ramped up to the full daily volume from one day to the next. In essence there is no formal Job One. BMW says to confirm high quality standards are fulfilled from the very first vehicle, complex components underwent virtual testing for fit accuracy prior to the start of production. Continue reading

Chevrolet Camaro 2020 Updates are Modest
Perhaps it’s not surprising given GM’s justifiable obsessions with trucks and autonomous vehicles that a SS like appearance, a new LT1 V8 model and 10-speed option with the 3.6L V6 are all there is for the 2020 Camaro. Continue reading →
