Nissan to Exit Russian Market. Maybe
The sale is expected to be formalized in the coming weeks following approvals from the authorities, which sure looks inevitable since it’s being sold to the Russian government. The terms of the sale are hedged. It would allow Nissan the option to buy back the entity and its operations within the next six years. It’s the latest example of global automakers shutting operation in a totalitarian state. Will China be next? Continue reading

Ford Changes Supply Chain and Product Development Execs
It’s the latest example of the intricate routes automakers are negotiating in the transition to electric vehicles that is accelerating in the face of the dire effects of global warming, some of it caused by the transportation industries’ ongoing use of fossil fuels and what was in effect denial of the negative consequences of the exclusive use of fossil fuels. Ford’s challenge is to profitably maintain a line of both EVs from Ford Model e and so-called Ford Blue internal combustion vehicles that at some point – perhaps near at hand – are doomed. VW Group Changes EV Strategy, Leadership in North America
Scout will launch all-electric pick-up trucks and SUVs in the U.S. market. Volkswagen, of course, has been haunted for years by its deliberate cheating on deadly diesel emissions levels by using defeat software on EPA compliance tests that made the diesels look compliant when they were far from it*. VW did not say anything about the name Scout, of International Harvester fame, the name it acquired as part another business deal back in 2021. Continue reading

July 4th 2022: An Unhappy 246th Birthday for Our Democracy
With our collective actions we can on future Fourth of Julys celebrate our Union and our collective progress. These too will be Independence Days that build on our past. However, they will be ones that embrace a movement toward an even more independent future, a stronger economy that embraces all, not just the ultra, non-tax-paying rich and celebrates yet unknown non-summer soldiers and stormy weather patriots. Don’t tread on our ideals. Continue reading
