Automotive Hall of Fame Honors Roy Lunn and GT40
Lunn was ideal to work for Ford. A former designer and engineer for AC, Jowett, and Aston Martin, he previously led a Le Mans campaign for Aston and his work had led him, eventually, to a position in Dearborn – via Ford of England where he designed the Anglia. In that Detroit suburb, notable for a racist Mayor, Lunn contributed to the mid-engine 1962 Ford Mustang I. Continue reading

WEC: Toyota Wins in Bahrain
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who supported TOYOTA GAZOO Racing in the World Endurance Championship this season,” said Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota Motor Corporation. “Going to Le Mans to be together with our team in our fight there this June resulted in a personally and truly frustrating experience. And I am aware that our performance in that race brought frustration to our fans, as well. Other grueling races followed, and, amid it all, we learned of Porsche’s planned withdrawal from the WEC. After last year’s Le Mans, Porsche recognized us as a rival. By battling it out with such rivals as Porsche, I think we were able to heighten our technical prowess, making us faster and stronger. Corvette Wins at Laguna Seca. Just Points Ahead of GT40
Sports car racing is a bit like the ‘restaurant row phenomenon” where multiple offerings in proximity – in this case fender-to-fender or exhaust-to-front bumper kissing at racing speeds – allows all to thrive in a cacophonous street and track democracy where you ‘run what you brung’ machines that are legal on the track. And the street legal versions of these cars have never been so edgy, so close to the pro versions particularly in the GT classes that there is a performance heaven on earth. Continue reading
