In 2019, NHTSA published an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on a variety of issues related to potential rear seat belt warning requirements. Toyota and Lexus Recalling Numerous Vehicles for Bad Airbags
Toyota is recalling model year 2023 Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, 2023 Lexus RX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX500 Hybrid, 2023-2024 Lexus NX250, NX350, and NX350 Hybrid vehicles because of potentially defective airbags. Continue reading

Hyundai Recalls Some Sonata Hybrids for Seat Belt Defect, But Asks NHTSA to Ignore More than 13,000 in Customer Use.
NHTSA had no immediate comment on the request, which covers a center rear safety belt with a release mechanism that detaches both the lap and shoulder portion at the lower anchorage point. This design is legal for non-folding rear seats, but for the folding ones installed in the Sonata hybrid. NHTSA alerted Hyundai of the violation of federal regulations as part o its ongoing compliance testing. Continue reading
Cadillac Recalls CTS AND CTS-V for Bad Knee Bolsters
Cadillac is recalling more than 20,000 CTS all-wheel-drive and CTS-V models from the 2009-2010 model years because of a defective knee bolster on the front passenger side, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Continue reading

Toyota Recalls a Previous Bad Airbag Recall
βAn electrical connection inside the steering column’s spiral cable assembly may be insufficiently welded, causing the connection to separate and deactivate the driver’s air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection,” Toyota said in the mandatory safety defect filing made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this morning.
