VW Group Electric Shuffle – Emden, Hanover to build EVs

In the future, electric small cars and sedans from several brands will be built in Emden, while Hanover will specialize in the production of the ID. BUZZ family, in addition to building vehicles with conventional drives. I.D. BUZZ, a VW Microbus like EV, will arrive at dealerships after a compact four-door I.D. model in 2022. Volkswagen Group to Cut CO2 emissions to 95 g/km by 2020

In the ongoing battle of the green press releases, Volkswagen Group has restated its strategic goal of becoming the world’s most “environmentally sustainable” automaker by 2018. The announcement was originally made a year ago when VW Group undertook an ecologically oriented restructuring designed to coordinate responses to increasingly tough global regulations covering vehicles and how they are made and recycled. Volkswagen Brand Global Sales up 9% Year-to-Date

Volkswagen delivered 893,400 passenger vehicles during the first two months of 2013, a +9.1% improvement from 2012 at 818,800. The success of the volume brand from the VW Group is key to realizing its ambitions to be the world’s largest automaker by 2018, a position now held by Toyota Motor Corporation. Porsche Sales Rise 18% in February Led by 31% U.S. Gain

Porsche sold 10,454 sold new vehicles in February 2013, an increase of 18.2% in comparison to the same month last year. The Porsche model most in demand worldwide was the Cayenne SUV once again at 5,637. Almost 2,000 911 models were sold.The former sports car maker, now luxury vehicle manufacturer fully owned by the Volkswagen Group, saw particularly strong sales in the U.S. at 3,225, a 31% increase in its largest market. Year-to-date Porsche sales at 22,515 are up 22% globally. VW Group is closing in on GM as the world’s second largest automaker and wants to be Number One in global auto sales by 2018. VW Group Ties GM for Largest Automaker in China in January

The VW Group began the year with a 15% increase in sales for January, totaling 749,900 compared to January of 2012 at 652,400. A huge portion of the gain was the later date for the Chinese New Year, which means a decline in China is coming in February for all automakers when the holiday is celebrated. Nevertheless, The VW Group delivered 298,300 (208,200; +43.3%) vehicles in China, the region’s largest single market, in the first month of the year. Toyota Ousts GM from Global Auto Sales Leadership. VW Third

Toyota Motor regained global sales leadership in 2012 ousting GM by selling 9.75 million vehicles. GM’s sales were 9.29 million vehicles with Volkswagen Group closing on GM in third place at 9.07 million vehicles for the year. Toyota had led global sales from 2008 until 2010 when natural disaster induced production disruptions, the result of a tragic earthquake in Japan and flooding in Thailand, halted its growth. Volkswagen Group to Invest €50 Billion During Next Three Years

Volkswagen Group will invest €50.2 billion in its Automotive Division in the coming three years after approval by its Supervisory Board last week. It’s the latest step in VW’s attempt to become the world’s largest Automotive Group by 2018. EU Passenger Car and Commercial Vehicles Sales Down Again

Thus far the European auto industry has done little to reduce its capacity, which is now widely discordant with constantly falling demand. GM is planning to close its Opel Zafira plant in Bochum, Germany after the run-out of the current Zafira in 2015, but that is not enough to return Opel to profitability after decades of losses totaling hundreds of billions dollars. Opel employs 20,800 people across Germany and more than 40,000 across Europe. The head of GM Europe was ousted earlier this month over the continuing losses and the lack of progress. Porsche Opens Display at Autostadt Park in Wolfsburg

Porsche AG inaugurated its new pavilion in Wolfsburg’s Autostadt theme park today. The auto manufacturer’s new exhibition building has a curved roof design said to be inspired by the silhouette of a Porsche 911. Inside, the center stage of the pavilion displays 25 vehicle models that take visitors on a journey through the development of the sports car brand. Continue reading

Volkswagen Group April Sales at 732,000 are Up 6%

The Volkswagen Group in Wolfsburg today said sales increased for the month of April to 732,000 vehicles. Compared to April 2011 at 690,800, this represented a 6% gain. Year-to-date VW Group sold 2.89 million vehicles for an increase of 8.6% percent (January-April 2011: 2.66 m). Europe’s largest automaker and the Number Two Global automaker behind General Motors outperformed the overall market, which grew by 6% during the year.

Volkswagen Group Posts Record 2011 Results – €11.3 billion

Consolidated operating profit rose to a record €11.3 billion, an improvement of €4.1 billion compared with 2010. This profit does not include the Group’s €2.6 billion (€1.9 billion) share of the operating profit of its communist-government-required Chinese joint ventures. These companies are accounted for in the financial result, which rose by €5.8 billion to €7.7 billion last year. Operating margin improved from 5.6% to 7.1%. Continue reading
