GM Announces Niron Magnetics Partnership for EV Motors

Niron’s proprietary Clean Earth Magnet® technology is based on iron nitride, a plentiful and affordable material with “real potential for commercial use in future EVs,” GM said. The permanent magnets in EV motor rotors are typically made from rare earth minerals such as terbium, dysprosium, praseodymium and neodymium, which are expensive and currently processed almost entirely overseas. Unifor Stellantis Agreement Good for All Workers in Transition

“After a short strike throughout the night Unifor has reached now a tentative agreement with Stellantis. The deal came about around 7:00 AM this morning, after bargaining throughout the night. Ford EV Charging Network Grows by 25%

Ford Motor said today that customers can now access three new charging providers – Francis Energy, Blink and Red E across the US. and Canada with embedded charger routing and simple payment options via FordPass. The three new companies bring more than 10,000 new chargers to the network, including more than 550 new DC fast chargers. Blink, Francis Energy and Red E join the existing BlueOval Charge Network providers: Shell Recharge Solutions, Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, FLO, EV Connect, and Electric Circuit for a total of ~106,000 charging stations. UAW has Tentative Agreement With Stellantis

“Once again, we have achieved what just weeks ago we were told was impossible,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. “At Stellantis in particular, we have not only secured a record contract, we have begun to turn the tide in the war on the American working class. Going into these negotiations, the company wanted to cut 5000 jobs across Stellantis. Our Stand Up Strike changed that equation. Not only did we not lose those 5000 jobs, we turned it all the way around. By the end of this agreement, Stellantis will be adding 5000 jobs. Ford Reaches UAW Contract Agreement If Members Vote Yes

“We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract with the UAW covering our U.S. operations,” said Ford CEO and President Jim Farley at 8:43 pm tonight in a Dearborn issued statement.

Stellantis and Orano Explore EV Battery Recycling Deal

Key to the deal appears to be Orano’s low-carbon technology, which differs from existing processes, allowing the recovery of all materials from lithium-ion batteries, and the manufacturing of new cathode materials. The joint venture will produce materials also known as “black mass” or “active mass.” This can be refined in Orano’s hydro-metallurgical plant to be built in Dunkirk, France, so that the materials could be re-used in batteries. GM Earns $3.6 Billion in Q3 2023

General Motors (NYSE: GM) today reported third-quarter 2023 revenue of $44.1 billion, net income attributable to stockholders of $3.1 billion and EBIT-adjusted of $3.6 billion on global sales of 981,000 vehicles.* The $3.6 billion includes ~$(0.2) billion of labor disruption impact, which was before the UAW struck GM’s most profitable plant this morning. GM Increases Contract Offer for UAW Members

General Motors said today that it has provided a comprehensive offer to the UAW yesterday with “substantial movement in all key areas in an effort to reach a final agreement with the UAW and get our people back to work.” Gerald Johnson, executive vice president manufacturing and global sustainability, in a video told GM UAW members “the offer on the table is the most significant that GM has ever proposed to the UAW and recognizes our team members for all their dedication and contributions. The majority of our workforce will make $40.39 per hour, or roughly $84,000 a year by the end of this agreement’s term. We also continue to provide world-class health care with no out-of-pocket premiums or deductibles for seniority team members.” Continue reading

Toyota Adopts the Tesla North American Charging Standard

Toyota and Lexus customers will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America. Toyota and Lexus will incorporate North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports in some new Toyota and Lexus battery electric vehicles (BEVs) starting in 2025 to eliminate the need for what are sometimes awkward adapter plugs in AutoInformed’s experience.
