Tether Cyber Scam ~$9M in Crypto Seized by DOJ

The US Justice Department (DOJ) today announced the seizure of ~$9 million worth of Tether, a cryptocurrency pegged to the US dollar. The Corrupting Influence of Money on US Public Health

“Heavy Vehicle emissions standards recently proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would boost the electrification of trucks and buses, but standards stronger than what EPA proposed are needed to de-carbonize transportation at a pace to prevent catastrophic climate change. The 1840 Census First Collected Data on Male Veterans

“Although it had been nearly 60 years since the American Revolution had ended, the compendium listed the surviving pensioners, including widows, of that war,” said Jonathan Vespa a demographer in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Social, Economic, and Housing Statistics Division. “In the 18 decades that followed, the data that the Census Bureau collected about veterans continually shifted and expanded, providing a historical record of just how much the definition of military service has been redefined over centuries. Who was counted as a veteran depended on when and where a man served in the U.S. armed forces. And, yes, for most of the nation’s history, only men were considered veterans.” Continue reading

Chinese Vehicle Market Sales Strong in September

“We expect sales to remain strong in the coming years. This month we have again increased our full-year 2023 forecast, this time by 300,000 units, bringing the full-year forecast to 28.9 million units, a year- on-year increase of 8%. However, it should be noted that near-term downside risks exist, mainly from the liquidity crisis in the real estate sector – said to directly and indirectly account for 25% of GDP-  declining exports, and high youth unemployment,” said the GlobalData Forecast Team. Chinese Light Vehicle Sales Up Again

Chinese Light Vehicle (LV) wholesales in August came in at 2.56 million units with growth of 7% YoY, according to the latest data and analysis from GlobalData.* Total passenger vehicle (PV) wholesale volume reached 2.32 million units with growth of 7% in the month. Simultaneously, the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV ) sector recovered well, increasing by 11% year-on-year (YoY) to a total of 243,000 units. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, PV sales increased by 8%, and LCV sales also increased by 5% in August, in the world’s largest vehicle market. Continue reading

Red Card – Premier League Scandal Rocks Stellantis Board

Exor – (EXOR.AS), the Agnelli family holding company that controls the English Premier League Juventus football club, will designate a successor director at the AGM in accordance with Article 19.3 of the Stellantis’s Articles of Association.

The billionaire Juventus Chairman Andrea Agnelli could be tried over the football club’s accounting procedures and alleged illegal commissions or payments, as well as false transactions. He also resigned today  as president from Juventus and his position at Exor. Curiously the BBC – normally rife with Premier League football coverage – is not featuring this news item as far as I can tell.   Continue reading

BMW 507 Driven by Elvis at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

The BMW 507 driven by Elvis Presley while he was doing military service in Germany is restored and will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 507 disappeared for nearly 50 years, and was believed to have been lost. After almost two years of restoration work, BMW Group Classic is presenting the roadster for the first time on 21 August 2016.

Elvis Presley used the BMW 507 to drive between his home in Bad Nauheim and the U.S. Army Base in Friedberg, Southern Germany. He was often mobbed by female fans. The paintwork of the roadster was frequently daubed with messages of love painted in lipstick. Continue reading

Larry Gustin Donates Durant Papers to Sloan Museum

The Sloan Museum is the beneficiary of donation from Lawrence R. Gustin, aka Larry in auto circles, a distinguished automotive and Flint historian that includes the personal papers of William C. Durant, the General Motors founder.

Gustin, a Flint native, was a writer and editor at the Flint Journal from 1960 to 1984 and later assistant public relations director of Buick before retiring in 2005. He was and is an active supporter of  press organizations, including the Automotive Press Association.  Continue reading

Chevrolet is finally replacing its aging Cobalt with the Cruze sedan, which is already on sale in more than 60 countries in Asia and Europe since 2009.
