Chinese Government Approves Volvo Car Plants
Chinese government approved the establishment Volvo Car Group plants in Daqing and Zhangjiakou. As a result, Zhejiang Geely-owned Volvo Cars will have a bigger Chinese industrial presence then it has in Sweden when you include Chengdu, which is already building prototype stretched versions of the S60 sedan. GM, Ford Set China Sales Records in June and First Half
Nonetheless, stockholders at Ford Motor are so far not benefiting from the success in China. Rapid expansion and payments to partners are keeping money in China and not returning it to the U.S. as Ford lost $72 million in Asia-Pacific during 2012. General Motors shareholders in theory are doing better. GM’s International Operations full-year EBIT-adjusted was $2.2 billion in 2012 compared with $1.9 billion in 2011. Guangqi Honda Selling Unique Crider in China. Exports Certain
Proving that automotive marketing babble is universal regardless of language, Honda said (in translation) that the Crider’s “dynamic exterior design inspired by an image of a dragon.” Such nonsense aside, Crider is certainly headed for export markets, making it a milestone car in the Chinese automobile industry, not unlike Honda’s decision as the first Japanese automaker to build cars in the U.S., although the Accord was a Japanese design. Milestones – Seven Million Ford Transit Vans
The milestone was celebrated at the official opening of a new Transit assembly plant in Nanchang, China, attended by Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally. The Jiangling Xiaolan facility is the result of a $300 million investment by Ford’s strategic partner Jiangling Motors Corporation, and produces JMC-branded vehicles and Ford-branded vehicles for the growing Chinese market. JMC is 31.5% owned by Ford. Continue reading

General Motors, Ford Post Record May China Sales
General Motors and its joint ventures sold a May record of 252,942 vehicles in China, sales increasing 9.4% from the same month last year. Crosstown rival and slow starter in China, Ford Motor Company also posted a record from a year earlier to 70,540 passenger cars. Continue reading

Lexus GS 300h debuts at Shanghai Motor Show
While this latest Lexus hybrid has fuel economy and tax advantages in global markets, particularly against German luxury cars with diesel engines, it is not clear whether Lexus needs the smaller engine GS hybrid in North America where GS sales have been softening. Renault Nissan Establish Joint Innovation Hub in China
he Alliance Automotive Research and Development (Shanghai), Ltd., dubbed as Alliance Innovation Lab Shanghai (AIL-SH) has Renault and Nissan each hold 50% of this new entity. It conducts research and development on autonomous drive, connected vehicles and electric vehicles.
