BMW Art Car World Tour – Pebble Beach Next
The BMW Art Cars by American artists Andy Warhol and Julie Mehretu will be exhibited at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, BMW said today. The display at the concours marks the beginning of the North America segment of the BMW Art Car World Tour which celebrates the collection in its 50th year globally.
“The display at the concours marks the beginning of the North America leg of the BMW Art Car World Tour, which celebrates the iconic collection in its jubilee year around the globe from Vienna to Hong Kong and Shanghai, from Dubai to Marrakech and Milan. The two BMW Art Cars will travel on to The Bridge and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. respectively,” BMW said. Continue reading

BMW 507 Driven by Elvis at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
The BMW 507 driven by Elvis Presley while he was doing military service in Germany is restored and will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 507 disappeared for nearly 50 years, and was believed to have been lost. After almost two years of restoration work, BMW Group Classic is presenting the roadster for the first time on 21 August 2016.
Elvis Presley used the BMW 507 to drive between his home in Bad Nauheim and the U.S. Army Base in Friedberg, Southern Germany. He was often mobbed by female fans. The paintwork of the roadster was frequently daubed with messages of love painted in lipstick. Continue reading
World Record Claimed for Pebble Beach Auto Auction
The official auctioneer of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance sold more than $113.7 million at the Pebble Beach Auctions on August 18 and 19. Twenty-four collector cars sold in excess of $1 million each, led by the von Krieger Special Roadster, a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540 K, which sold for $11,770,000 on Sunday night, a claimed double world record for a Mercedes-Benz and a pre-war car at auction. Acura yesterday at Monterey Car Week staged the world-debut of the Acura RSX Prototype, promoting the brand’s next-generation all-electric performance SUV.
