Toyota to Build Suzuki SUV in India for Both Brands
The powertrains offered in India, will be equipped with a mild hybrid developed by Suzuki and a full hybrid developed by Toyota. “By bringing together strengths of both Toyota and Suzuki through the collaboration, the two companies will be able to provide a wide variety of vehicle electrification technologies to customers and contribute to the acceleration of electrification and the realization of a carbon-neutral society in India,” the companies said in a joint release. Auto Parts Maker Y-Tec Fires Workers for Unionizing
A Japanese-owned auto parts manufacturer in Thailand – Y-Tec – is conducting a brutal crackdown after workers formed a union, according to IndustriALL, a global federation of trade unions. Y-Tec monitored union members with closed circuit televisions, submitted them to random drug tests, dismissed some and forced others to resign, and laid a defamation charge against the union president over a social media post. Ford India Expands Chennai Engine Plant
Ford India today announced it has completed the expansion of its Chennai engine plant, increasing annual engine production capacity 36% to 340,000. The additional capacity of 80,000 diesel engines helps meet increasing demand for diesel powertrains in India as well as export markets. The expansion, which Ford hopes will be ongoing, led to the hiring of 200 employees. Continue reading

Suzuki, Daihatsu, Toyota to Release EV Mini-Commercial Vans
Suzuki Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Company and Toyota Motor Corporation said today that they have decided to aim for the release of their mini-commercial van electric vehicles (BEVs) respectively in fiscal 2025.*
“This mini-commercial van BEV, jointly developed by the three companies, combines Suzuki and Daihatsu’s expertise in creating small-size cars with Toyota’s electrification technology and is equipped with a BEV system suitable for mini-commercial vehicles. Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation also participated in the planning to achieve a vehicle with optimal specifications for efficient last-mile logistics,” the companies said in a joint release.
