NHTSA Opens Tesla Probe for Steering Wheels Falling Off

In the filing, ODI said both vehicles received an end of line repair requiring removal and re-installation of the steering wheel. A friction fit maintained the connection between the steering wheel and the column splines during operation until separation. Sudden separation occurred when the force exerted on the steering wheel overcame the resistance of the friction fit while the vehicles were in motion. Stellantis Sells Its Turkish Distribution Company

Awards will take the form of direct funding, federal loans, and/or federal guarantees of third-party loans. Awards are designed to complement—not replace—private investment and other sources of funding, and applicants are strongly encouraged to bring capital to the table. CHIPS for America awards will be made as soon as applications can be rigorously evaluated and negotiated. Honda, LG Energy Solution Break Ground for New Battery Plant

The location of the joint venture between Honda and LGES was announced on 11 October 2022, and was formally established on 12 January 2023. Stellantis to Convert Three Indiana Plants to EV Components

As a result more than 265 jobs will survive. Stellantis* said that its total investments in Indiana since 2020 to support electrification goals will increase to nearly $3.3 billion, including gigafactory joint venture with Samsung SDI. Michigan Chemistry – Ford to Spend $3.5B on LFP Battery Plant

Lithium iron phosphate batteries use fewer high-demand, high-cost materials such as critical minerals nickel and cobalt. Ford said they will power a variety of Ford’s next-generation of EV passenger vehicles and pickups, starting this year with Mustang Mach-E. A US LFP battery plant is now central to the so-called Ford+ plan because in theory it helps Ford more EV production quickly thereby making EVs more affordable for customers. Ford’s goal is an 8% EBIT margin for Model e by 2026. It is being pushed hard here by General Motors* and other global automakers as they compete in the capital markets. Continue reading

US Trade Deficit Grows in 2022 as Economy Recovers

For 2022, the goods and services deficit increased $103.0 billion, or 12.2% from 2021. This is the largest deficit on record as the economy continued to recover as consumers and businesses purchased higher amounts of machinery, car components, industrial supplies, medicines among other things.
