2013 Global Light Vehicle Sales Tracking at 83 million

Global light vehicle sales held steady in May with a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of sales of 82.8 million units a year, according to the latest data from LMC Automotive. The consultancy predicts that full-year 2013 sales will be 83.4 million units. Continue reading

Third Chrysler Recall in Week Since it Spurned NHTSA

Chrysler Group is recalling approximately 14,800 Dodge cars to recalibrate their powertrain control modules. It was the third recall in a week after Chrysler spurned a request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall almost 3 million Jeeps because of an allegedly defective fuel tank design. Press Preview Failure Prompts Global Aston Martin Recall

More than 2,800 sports cars are affected because of a gas pedal manufacturing defect that first appeared at a press preview in March. GM Reorganizes Again – New Global Services Group

Tremblay’s appointment is effective 1 July 1. Her workers will come from employees in Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, Real Estate and Indirect Purchasing. When fully operational, Global Business Services will manage dozens of common processes across GM and include thousands of employees across the globe. The group is expected to reduce associated costs by at least 30% over the next four years. Whether the cost savings come from eliminating jobs was not immediately clear. Continue reading

GM Declares Dividend on Series B Preferred Stock

The convertible preferred stock was offered at $50 per share when GM emerged from bankruptcy. The shares automatically convert to a variable amount of GM common stock on 1 December 2013. If GM common is trading at $33 for a period preceding that, preferred shareholders will at least break even on the $50 per share price paid. Chrysler Recalls 600,000 Jeep SUVs for Safety Defects

Only days after Chrysler Group refused a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration request to recall 2.7 million Jeep models because of allegedly unsafe fuel systems, the company is initiating a safety recall on defective Jeep airbag modules. No Sales Surprises in May – Top Ten List Unchanged

There were no real surprises hidden in the U.S. sales data now that all the numbers are in. A slowly recovering U.S. auto market posted sales of 1.45 million light vehicles for a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 15.3 million light vehicles.
