Chevrolet Recalls Cruze for “Steering Wheel Detachment”
GM reported to NHTSA that upon investigation it was discovered that an incorrect steering wheel was originally fastened on the steering column of the Cruze during assembly. When the mistake was discovered, the wheel was removed and replaced but the steering wheel was not properly fastened to the column. The worker apparently left the bolt out. Continue reading
U.S. Vehicle Miles Traveled Rises in 2010. Still Below 2007 Peak
Preliminary estimates from the Federal Highway Administration show vehicle miles traveled (VMT) increased slightly in 2010 over the previous year. However VMT has not surpassed the peak of 3.03 trillion miles in 2007 when the economy was booming and gasoline was relatively inexpensive. Continue reading

On these non-production days, Toyota will continue to provide employment for its approximately 25,000 regular North American team members in keeping with previous Toyota practices. Department of Energy, Qatar Sign Agreement on Clean Energy
Qatar, an ally of the United States in the ongoing Libya war, has enormous reserves of both oil and natural gas, and as a result is an extremely wealthy nation. Qatar has agreed to market Libyan oil from sites controlled by the Libyan rebels and has sent troops to fight. BMW Brilliance Automotive to Show Plug-in Hybrid at Shanghai
BMW Brilliance Automotive will show a prototype plug-in hybrid sedan at Auto Shanghai 2011 later this month. The plug-in hybrid, based on a long wheelbase 5-series sedan is significant because it was developed exclusively for the Chinese automobile market and produced at the Shenyang joint venture site. Toyota to Resume Vehicle Production at All Japan Plants

Chevrolet Miray Voted Best Concept at Seoul Motor Show
The Chevrolet Miray was named Best Concept Car at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show. Journalists attending the show voted their favorite cars in three categories: Best Concept Car, Best Green Car and Best Passenger Car. The Miray, which made its world premiere in Seoul, received the most votes among concept cars on display.
The Miray roadster is significant because it was developed at the General Motors Advanced Design Studio in Seoul, increasingly the source of small car work for the U.S. based and taxpayer owned GM. Continue reading

General Motors India Strike Continues at Cruze and Aveo Plant
More than 1,000 workers at the General Motors Halol plant in Gujurat State, India have been on strike for the last three weeks in an increasingly bitter struggle that has seen the workers forcibly ejected from the plant after the government declared the strike illegal. It was reminiscent of UAW sit down strikes during 1936-37 in Michigan. Continue reading
