Stellantis Q1 Revenues, Shipments Drop – Transition or Trend?

Stellantis reiterated a minimum commitment of double-digit Adjusted operating income (AOI) margin in 2024, as well as positive Industrial free cash flow, despite macroeconomic uncertainties. Stellantis claimed that it is on track to deliver total capital returns in 2024 more than €7.7 billion, for an 11% yield as a percentage of Stellantis market capitalization on 1 January 2024. It is likely that its value will go down in the short term. The company, in AutoInformed’s view is in a transition that requires the balancing of market share, product cost, revenue and development of new offerings. It is not alone among automakers. EPA Finalizes Pollution Reduction Standards for Power Plants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced a series of final rules to reduce pollution from fossil-fuel-fired power plants, which have been and likely will continue to be the subject of litigation paid for by special interest money. The rules under separate authorities including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, will significantly reduce climate, air, water, and land pollution from the power sector as they go forward. During 2024 the United States is forecast to build more new electric generation capacity than it has for two decades. About  96% of that will be clean, according to the current Administration. In the United States, the transportation sector is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. It is also a prominent source of health-harming pollution. Most of the vehicles eligible for replacement are powered by internal combustion engines that pre-date recent EPA emission standards. GM Posts $3 Billion in Q1 Earnings. Raises 2024 Guidance

“As we continue to strengthen our ICE [internal combustion engine] portfolio, scale EVs and reinvest in the business, we are very focused on capital efficiency, enhancing profitability and free cash flow, and we will continue to take steps to create shareholder value,” said CEO Mary T. EV Grumblings – Ford Cuts 2024 F-150 Lightning Prices

Ford Motors (NYSE: F) said today that online orders are open for the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks, now shipping from the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. In January Ford dropped a shift at Rouge because of weak demand for the Lightning, the top-selling electric pickup in the US. Competition is reducing demand and trimming margins. The previously announced MSRP of the 2024 F-150 Lightning is being reduced. The so-called F-150 Lightning Flash™, is now available with a starting MSRP under $70,000, and comes with  an extended-range battery. Continue reading

New Grille and Battery for 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS

Mercedes‑Benz said today that the EQS Sedan for 2025 model year has numerous upgrades with a new larger 118-kWh battery for increased electric range, a front fascia with a new grille and the Mercedes-Benz standing star on the hood, as well as new standard and optional equipment. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan arrives at U.S. dealerships later in 2024. The EQ brand is all electric, of course. The EQS SUV is a two- or three-row large vehicle produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, which is currently, so to speak, experiencing labor issues. Continue reading

Ford Stumbles on EVs – Two Year Delays on Three-Row Entries

Volkswagen Recalls Audi E-Tron models for Battery Fires

Volkswagen Group is recalling various 2022-2024 Audi E-Tron GT and the RS versions because the high-voltage battery may undergo a short circuit without warning and cause a fire. This is the result of the same safety defect that caused the recall of Porsche Taycan hybrids, according to documents released today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Porsche Recalls Taycan Hybrids for Battery Fires

Porsche Cars North America is recalling various Taycan models from the 2020 through the 2023 model years because the high-voltage battery may undergo a short circuit without warning within the battery modules of its first four-door electrified SUV. According to the required safety defect filing released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today, the hybrid battery modules were produced by LG energy Solution in Wrocław, Poland.
